چکیده

In our previous works, a Switching Linear Gaussian Hidden Markov Model (SLGHMM) and its segmental derivative, SSLGHMM, were proposed to cast the problem of modelling a noisy speech utterance by a well-designed dynamic Bayesian network. We presented parameter learning procedures for both models with maximum likelihood (ML) criterion. The effectiveness of such models was confirmed by evaluation experiments on Aurora2 database. In this paper, we present a study of minimum classification error (MCE) training for SSLGHMM and discuss its relation to our earlier proposals based on stochastic vector mapping. An important implementation issue of SSLGHMM, namely the specification of switching states for a given utterance, is also studied. New evaluation results on Aurora3 database show that MCE-trained SSLGHMMs achieve a relative error reduction of 21% over a baseline system based on ML-trained continuous density HMMs (CDHMMs).

Improved performance and generalization of minimum classification error training for continuous speech recognition

Discriminative training of hidden Markov models (HMMs) using segmental minimum classi cation error (MCE) training has been shown to work extremely well for certain speech recognition applications. It is, however, somewhat prone to overspecialization. This study investigates various techniques which improve performance and generalization of the MCE algorithm. Improvements of up to 7% in relative...

Minimum Classification Error Training of Hidden Markov Models for Sequential Data in the Wavelet Domain

In the last years there has been increasing interest in developing discriminative training methods for hidden Markov models, with the aim to improve their performance in classification and pattern recognition tasks. Although several advances have been made in this area, they have been targeted almost exclusively to standard models whose conditional observations are given by a Gaussian mixture d...

Estimating Stock Price in Energy Market Including Oil, Gas, and Coal: The Comparison of Linear and Non-Linear Two-State Markov Regime Switching Models

A common method to study the dynamic behavior of macroeconomic variables is using linear time series models; however, they are unable to explain nonlinear behavior of the series. Given the dependency between stock market and derivatives, the behavior of the underlying asset price can be modeled using Markov switching process properties and the economic regime significance. In this paper, a two-...

A log-linear discriminative modeling framework for speech recognition

Conventional speech recognition systems are based on Gaussian hidden Markov models (HMMs). Discriminative techniques such as log-linear modeling have been investigated in speech recognition only recently. This thesis establishes a log-linear modeling framework in the context of discriminative training criteria, with examples from continuous speech recognition, part-of-speech tagging, and handwr...

Minimum classification error training of hidden Markov models for acoustic language identification

The goal of acoustic Language Identification (LID) is to identify the language of spoken utterances. The described system is based on parallel Hidden Markov Model (HMM) phoneme recognizers. The standard approach for parameter learning of Hidden Markov Model parameters is Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation which is not directly related to the classification error rate. Based on the Minimum Class...
